At the car wash in Tempe, I finally saw the point of the two-bucket method.
I was washing my truck last Saturday, just using one bucket like always. A guy a few spots over was doing the two-bucket thing, one for soap and one for clean rinse water. He saw me and said, 'You're just painting the dirt back on.' I tried it his way, and the rinse water got dirty fast. My paint looked way better after. Has anyone else had a simple tip from a stranger change a chore for them?

That two-bucket method is a total game changer... it seems like extra work until you see how filthy that rinse water gets. Makes you realize you were just swirling grit around the whole time. I started using a grit guard in the rinse bucket too, which helps a lot. It's one of those things you can't unsee once you know.

My old black Honda used to get these fine swirl marks no matter how careful I was. After seeing @robins83 talk about the two bucket method, I tried it last weekend. The rinse water was basically mud after just one panel. It finally clicked that my single bucket was just a dirt soup. Now I won't even quick wash without two buckets. That grit guard in the rinse bucket is a smart move, I need to get one of those.

Totally had that same lightbulb moment with my old car. The rinse water looked like coffee after just the hood.
