PSA: My foreman in Philly told me to always double-check the governor rope tension before a full load test, and it saved a huge headache yesterday when we found a frayed section.
We were about to test a 12-story retrofit in the old bank building on Market Street, and his advice made us spot a weak spot that could have snapped under the 2500-pound test weight, so what's the one piece of job-site advice you swear by?

My old foreman in Chicago used to say the same thing about governor ropes, but I've seen more issues come from over-tightening than from wear. Putting too much stress on a cable can hide problems until it's too late. I always do a visual check first, then a hand-pull test for tension. The manual's torque specs are there for a reason, and I stick to them.

Totally agree, manuals know best.

Honestly that hand-pull test you do makes so much sense. Tbh I've seen guys crank things down way too hard just to feel safe, and it backfires.
