Just learned a quick fix for sticky door contacts

A light sanding of the contact points often restores smooth operation.

Nice one! Are you worried about over-sanding and damaging the contacts?

Ever see someone go way too hard with the sandpaper? My buddy Mark got so into fixing his sticky door he basically sanded the contact point into a weird slope. He was using coarse grit and really putting his back into it. The door swung free after that, yeah, but it wouldn't latch properly anymore because the shape was all wrong. He ended up having to replace that whole metal strike plate thing. Light touch is everything, just scuffing it up.

The door from our kitchen to the garage sticks so badly it drives me crazy. I always have to yank it open when my hands are full of groceries. I never thought of just lightly sanding the metal contact points. That is such a simple and obvious solution, I feel silly for not trying it sooner. It's a huge relief to know the fix is that easy and doesn't require buying new parts. I'm going to try this tomorrow morning.

Oh man, that's the best feeling when a fix is that simple. I read somewhere that a lot of the time it's not even the metal, it's just a tiny bit of paint buildup or gunk on the edge. A quick pass with fine sandpaper or even just rubbing it with a brown paper bag can sometimes do the trick without taking any real material off. Definitely go slow and check the fit after each little bit. Hope it works out for you!
