My vintage calculator collection has a display problem on the oldest one
I collect old calculators and the LED display on my 1970s model is dim. I've replaced the batteries and checked connections. Any tips for brightening these aging displays?

Wade_wells might be right about fading, but sometimes it's just dirty contacts. Try cleaning them first before you give up.

Do you think the LED chips are just worn out from age? The materials inside can break down after decades, which slowly dims the light. You might try gently cleaning the display contacts with isopropyl alcohol, but that often only helps a little. For a real fix, finding a donor unit for parts is sometimes the only way.
