On a remote installation job, I picked up a quick wire labeling trick
I started using colored zip ties to mark different circuit types. It made tracing lines much faster when we had to move between panels.

Oh god, the red and orange thing. I once labeled a whole bundle with orange for hot, then grabbed a red sharpie for the next one because the orange dried out. Spent twenty minutes convinced the system was haunted before I saw my own two labels. My helper just quietly handed me a new orange marker like I was a toddler who dropped my cookie.

My last color coded system was just three wires and I still managed to get the red and orange mixed up. Not my finest hour tracing that one.

Oh man, the orange and red debate is my personal nightmare. I swear my brain just flips them sometimes, and I’ve wired things up beautifully only to find my own notes make no sense. Last time it happened, the guy testing the system gave me a look of pure pity while we hunted for my mistake. I felt like I needed to go back to kindergarten and re-learn my colors.
