Ngl, I gotta push back on this one a little. Those button combos are rarely as universal as people make them sound. I've seen plenty of printers where holding down the power and cancel for ten seconds just does a normal reboot or sometimes even triggers a firmware error. Like on a few older HP models I've messed with, that same combo actually just cancels the print queue and wakes it from sleep. Your buddy probably stumbled onto something that worked for one specific model, but most machines don't have that kind of hidden memory wipe shortcut. Honestly, you're better off just pulling the plug and waiting a minute if you really need a full reset.
