Remember when we used to mix joint compound by hand in a bucket? I saw a guy finish a whole ceiling in the time it took his helper to get one batch ready.

My grandpa still uses a paint stick in a 5-gallon bucket. Watching him is like seeing a blacksmith work.

Yeah my dad does the same thing, he's got this old wooden paddle he uses for mixing joint compound. Tried to buy him a mixer attachment for his drill once and he just laughed. Said he can feel when the consistency is right through the stick in his hands. Honestly I get it now, there's a rhythm to it you don't get with power tools. Watching him work is like seeing someone who really knows their craft, no rushing.
