That time I pulled only trash from a lake for 3 straight days

Got a gig clearing out a small pond behind a strip mall in Akron. First day I was pulling up shopping carts, tires, and a literal mattress. By day three I was still getting plastic bags and random junk. Owner told me "the pond hasn't been touched since 1995." The before and after was night and day. Cleared maybe 4 tons of garbage total. Has anyone else hit a spot where you wondered if people just hate water?

People throw trash anywhere they don't gotta look at it lol. A pond behind a strip mall is basically invisible to most folks so it just becomes a dumping ground. I bet half that junk was from people who didn't even live nearby.

You hit it right on the head with "out of sight out of mind." It's the same reason people will dump old furniture on a back road or toss fast food bags out the window in a parking lot. They just don't want to look at the mess they make, so they shove it somewhere nobody will notice. That part about lazy people driving out there on purpose is dead on too. I've seen piles of trash in places you can't even find unless you're looking for a spot to dump stuff. It really is a shame, that pond probably had frogs and fish in it before it turned into a garbage pit.

People treat any spot they don't see every day like a free dump. It's out of sight out of mind, plain and simple. Lazy people drive out there on purpose, not just random passersby. They know nobody is watching so they don't care. Real shame because that pond was probably nice once.
