Spent a week comparing manual drafting to CAD for a house layout and it wrecked my timeline

I tried doing a full residential floor plan by hand first like the old-timers at my shop said, but after three days and two eraser blowouts I switched to AutoCAD and finished the whole thing in four hours. The difference in accuracy was night and day too, no more chasing down measurement mistakes with a scale ruler. Has anyone else found that mixing both methods actually works better for tricky details, or is that just slowing me down?

Three days of manual drafting sounds like a torture session I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Four hours in CAD versus three days by hand? That's not even a competition, that's a CRIME scene. Mixing methods for tricky details is just slow if you ask me. CAD lets you zoom in, snap to grid, and undo your mistakes instead of rubbing holes through your paper. The old-timers can keep their scale rulers and eraser dust, I'm sticking with the thing that doesn't make me want to throw my desk out the window.

Amen to that. I tried doing a floor plan by hand once for a class project and ended up drawing and erasing the same wall like 15 times until the paper was basically see-through. CAD lets me just hit delete and try again without having to buy new supplies. Plus the snap to grid alone saves me from those tiny misalignments that drive me crazy on paper.
