Just realized those cheap foam paint rollers are actually better than the expensive ones

Swore by the $12 microfiber rollers for years until a friend handed me a 3-pack of foam rollers from the dollar store and my last kitchen cabinet project had zero orange peel texture for the first time, has anyone else noticed this or did I just get lucky?

Man you're totally right. I spent like $15 on a "premium" microfiber roller for my bathroom vanity and it was a mess. Then I grabbed a 99 cent foam one for the trim and it went on buttery smooth, no bubbles or texture at all. I think the expensive ones are just hype for people who don't know any better.

Wait, isn't the whole point of foam rollers that they smooth stuff out way better than the fluffy ones? I feel like the expensive microfiber ones just suck up all your paint and leave streaks anyway.

My $8 foam roller peeled completely off the handle mid-project, so I'm with @hall.joel on this one, microfiber never did me dirty like that.
