My laptop died in a Chiang Mai cafe last Tuesday, and it was the best thing that happened all month.

I was forced to actually talk to people instead of working, and ended up finding a freelance client over a shared pot of tea. Has a tech fail ever accidentally opened a door for you?

It's a nice story, but my experience has been the opposite. A dead laptop on a work trip once meant missing a deadline and losing a client. That kind of stress isn't a door opener, it's a real problem. For me, reliability is the real key to opportunity, not hoping for a lucky accident. I'd rather have my tools work so I can make my own chances.

Missing a client over one dead laptop sounds pretty extreme... maybe there were other issues with the project? Reliability is good, but total dependence on one tool seems like its own problem.

My phone died at a bus stop once and I ended up chatting with my now neighbor lol. Forced me out of my bubble for a minute.

Ever read that article about how constant phone use trains our brains to avoid boredom? It said we're losing the skill of just sitting with our thoughts, which is where a lot of random ideas come from. Like, I used to hate waiting in line, but now I try to just look around instead of pulling out my phone. Saw a guy reading a book I liked last week and we talked about it for a minute. It's not about the tech failing, it's about choosing to look up sometimes.
