My big mistake was working from the same cafe every single day in Medellin
I spent three months there, always at the same spot with decent wifi. Then I met another nomad who asked if I ever felt like a tourist in my own routine. That hit me. I was paying for overpriced coffee just for a table, missing the whole point of being location free. How do you guys force yourself to actually move around and work from different places?

Your monthly cafe bill probably paid for their new espresso machine, congrats.

My local spot in Brooklyn just raised their latte price to six bucks. Charles Mitchell's buddy in Lisbon had it right, you gotta break the routine sometimes. I was doing the same thing, basically funding their remodel with my oat milk habit. Now I force myself to try a new place every other week.

Yeah, that "tourist in your own routine" line is real. My buddy did the same thing in Lisbon, got a monthly pass at one coworking spot and barely saw the city. He finally started just picking a new neighborhood to explore each Monday.

Ugh, I feel so called out right now. I literally have a favorite table at my usual spot and get annoyed if someone else is sitting there. Honestly, I should probably just buy the chair at this point with how much I've spent there. Trying new places feels like a chore sometimes, but you're right, it's way too easy to just fund someone's kitchen upgrade without even noticing.
