Found a client retention trick that actually works

Last month I lost a $2,000/month retainer client out of nowhere. They just said they were cutting costs. I asked why and they mentioned they felt out of the loop. So I started sending a quick 2-minute Loom video every Monday morning just recapping last week's wins. Three weeks later another client who was quiet for months renewed their contract. Has anyone else tried simple video updates over long email reports?

Funny you mention that, my neighbor runs a local plumbing company and he started doing something similar but with voice notes instead. He records a 30 second message in the car before he starts his day and sends it to his top 10 clients. Says it feels more personal than typing out a whole email where you sound like a robot. A client actually told him they never read his monthly newsletters but those little voice clips made them feel like they had a direct line to him. Seems like people just want to feel seen without having to dig through a wall of text. Might be worth trying if you worry about being on camera.

@marywilson hit it right on the head. Voice notes skip all the formal crap and hit that personal connection people actually want.

30 seconds? That is crazy to me. I gotta be honest @the_harper, I have a hard enough time getting people to listen to a 60 second voicemail without hanging up on me. But your neighbor might be onto something with that personal touch, maybe it works because people feel special getting a message just for them. My buddy tried it with his landscaping clients and said the ones he sent voice notes to actually started calling him back instead of ghosting. Have you ever tried something like that yourself or do you still stick to email?
