Vent: I used to hate flat color art in showcases
I thought it looked lazy and unfinished compared to shaded work. But after seeing how it highlights composition and line work, I totally flipped. Now I seek out flat color pieces for inspiration. It's made me rethink what makes art effective!

Funny enough, sketching without color taught me to love flat art.

Honestly I gotta disagree hard on this one. Skipping color feels like you're missing half the tools you could be using. Black and white sketches can look flat and unfinished to me, like you stopped halfway. Color is what adds feeling and depth, it's not just extra. A flat blue sky versus a sunset with oranges and pinks, that's a whole different mood right there. Learning with only black and white just teaches you to see in limits, not possibilities.

Wait, but starting without color forced me to actually understand light and shape first. When I finally added color later, my pictures got way better because the foundation was solid. It's like learning to walk before you run with a whole paint set.

My first attempt at a black and white sketch looked like a sad blob trying to be a tree. I spent so long on shadows that the whole thing just turned into a gray mess. Adding color later was a disaster because I had no clue how to make it look alive. It's like I learned to walk but kept tripping over my own feet when colors came into play. Now I see why some people swear by starting with color, because my foundation was more like quicksand.
