Stop putting your signature right on the edge of the canvas
I browse this digital art community a lot and I keep seeing pieces where the artist's signature is almost falling off the canvas. It bothers me because if someone reposts your art without credit or crops it badly, your name gets cut off completely. I used to do this too until I saw one of my pieces shared on Instagram with half my tag missing. Now I place my signature about an inch in from the edge or tuck it into a dark corner of the artwork itself. It is not just about protecting credit either. A signature crammed right on the border makes the whole composition feel rushed. Has anyone else noticed this trend and found a better way to hide their mark without ruining the image?

But isn't it kinda YOUR fault if someone crops your work badly? I mean, signatures on the edge have been a thing FOREVER in traditional art. I put mine right there so it's visible but not distracting. If someone steals my stuff and crops it, that's on them for being a thief, not on me for where I signed.

Actually, the bigger problem with edge signatures isn't about credit - it's about how it messes up the composition for legitimate buyers. When someone pays $50 for a print, they want the full artwork, not a signature cutting into the focal point. I've seen photographers lose sales because their watermark was too close to the subject and it looked cluttered even in the original. Keep the signature off the art entirely, or put it in a border area that can be cropped or left alone depending on the platform. That way nobody's making tough choices about what to cut out.

Wade871’s onto something, but good luck telling that to a thief who’s already cropped your signature out (jerks).
