Just found out my hobby costs more per hour than my cleaning business pays me

I was messing around with my spreadsheet yesterday trying to figure out why I'm always broke. Turns out I spend about $45 a month on yarn for my crochet projects. That didn't sound like much until I divided it by the hours I actually get to sit and crochet, which is maybe 8 hours if I'm lucky. So I'm paying around $5.62 an hour to do my favorite thing, while my cleaning gig nets me about $28 an hour after supplies and gas. It hit me weird, like I'm literally paying money to relax while I'm earning money to clean other people's houses. Has anyone else crunched those numbers and felt kinda weird about it?

Paying money to relax" is a weird way to look at it, honestly. You're not paying to relax, you're paying for the materials to make something. If crocheting was free, you'd just be sitting there doing nothing with your hands. And $5.62 an hour is basically nothing compared to what people spend on concerts or eating out. You're getting hours of quiet time and a finished blanket at the end, which is worth more than the yarn cost if you ask me.

My friend spent like $12 on a skein of chunky yarn and got 15 hours of just zoning out while making a scarf. Compare that to dropping $50 on a movie night with snacks and you're barely getting 3 hours of entertainment. Plus you have a scarf at the end instead of just a ticket stub.
