I just left the hardware store in Akron and I'm mad about the paint swatch situation

They had 47 shades of gray but none of them looked anything like the actual paint on the wall. I swear the little square chips are just printed by a different company entirely and don't match the gallon. Has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon painting only to realize your 'warm taupe' is actually 'cold dishwater'?

Settle down a bit, it's just paint. I've painted plenty of rooms and yeah, the swatches aren't perfect, but you can test a sample on the wall first before you buy a whole gallon. Holding the chip up against something you already know the color of helps too. Did you even try that before you got mad?

Oh man, I had nearly the exact same frustration with a paint color last year. I was dead set on a specific gray from the chip, bought a sample quart, painted a big patch on the wall, and it pulled way more purple than I expected. What finally helped me was taking the chip outside and looking at it in natural daylight before I even bought the paint. That, plus painting a sample on a piece of white foam board and moving it around the room at different times of day, saved me from a whole room of regret. Your mileage may vary, but the foam board trick was a total game changer for me.

my buddy did the foam board thing and it legit saved his bedroom from looking like a grape.
