TIL my phone autocorrects 'definitely' to 'defiantly' and I've sent 20 weird texts

I was going through my sent messages last night and noticed I kept typing 'defiantly' instead of 'definitely.' Looked it up and my phone's dictionary learned it from a typo I made months ago. Now I've been telling my boss I'll 'defiantly' finish reports and telling friends I'm 'defiantly' coming to dinner. Has anyone else had their phone learn a weird word and mess up all your messages?

My friend Karen had this exact thing happen but with 'pubic' instead of 'public.' She emailed her whole neighborhood group about the 'pubic park clean-up' and didn't catch it for three days. The worst part was that her phone kept doing it even after she tried to retrain it. She finally had to reset her keyboard dictionary completely to make it stop. Her neighbor still brings it up at every block party.

Oh man, that's brutal. You really learn who your true friends are when they never let you forget a typo like that. Poor Karen is probably still checking every single email three times before hitting send.

Man, that keyboard dictionary reset thing is a whole saga of its own. I had a similar issue with my phone autocorrecting my neighbor's name "Doug" to "Dough" every single time I texted him about potlucks or whatever. After a few months of this, my husband started calling him Dough to his face and now that's literally his new nickname in our friend group. @emmaclark you're totally right, poor Karen probably triple checks everything now but the damage is done. I swear these phones have a personal vendetta against certain words.
