Warning: I found out my phone listens even when it's off
I was messing around on a tech forum late Monday night and saw a thread about a study from some university in California. The study said that 9 out of 10 phones still pick up sound even when you think they are powered down. I tested it with my own phone by saying "buy dog food" out loud while it was off. Two days later I got a coupon in the mail for dog food from a store I never shop at. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I should just put my phone in a drawer at night. Has anyone else tried this test and gotten weird results like that?
...that coupon probably came from the store's mailing list you got on ages ago, not your "off" phone, since a powered-down phone has no mic circuit running to record anything. Saying a word out loud doesn't make a coupon appear, that's just mail timing and your brain connecting dots that were never linked.
