Unpopular opinion: That $30 no-name torque wrench at Harbor Freight is a gamble I lost today

I was torquing down lug nuts on a customer's sedan and the click never came, stripped two studs before I caught it. Has anyone else had a cheap torque wrench fail on them at a bad moment?

Wait, were you using a torque wrench on lug nuts without a torque stick or just by feel? Honestly, those cheap click wrenches are notorious for skipping calibration after a few drops.

Honestly, a good click is a good click no matter what you paid.

Yeah, "notorious for skipping calibration after a few drops" describes my $30 wrench perfectly. I dropped mine once from the workbench and it's been lying to me ever since, just like that ex who said she'd call back. At least a stud is cheaper than another therapy session.
