PSA: I skipped my company's mandatory 8am Zoom for 2 weeks and got more done than in the past 2 months
The first week I had a 9am delivery window in Council Bluffs, so I just called in from the cab with my camera off and nobody said a word. I got 4 loads routed, 2 fuel stops planned, and my logs done before lunch, which never happens. My dispatcher told me my on-time rate went up 6 points that pay period and asked what changed. Everyone at my yard swears those meetings keep us sync'd, but I counted 22 people on the last one and maybe 3 ever talked. Second week same thing, no camera, no small talk, just me and my route sheet at 6am. Has anybody else noticed their real work only starts once the meetings end?
Wait, 22 people on a call and only 3 ever talk? That is wild to me. That means 19 people are just sitting there on mute burning an hour of their day for nothing. I knew these meetings were mostly useless but seeing it put that plain is kind of blowing my mind. No wonder your on time rate jumped, you were actually working instead of listening to three people talk over each other.
19 people on mute is basically a paid break you can't take. I sat through one last month where the same 4 people talked for 55 minutes and the rest of us just watched. The calendar invite should just say who actually needs to be there. Maybe it's just me but if you're not talking or taking notes, you don't need the link.
