Our farm gate latch broke for the third time this season, so I finally swapped it for a different design
I was moving hay bales yesterday and the old metal hook latch snapped clean off, same thing that happened in April and June. After two temporary fixes that lasted maybe a week each, I drove to Tractor Supply and grabbed a heavy-duty sliding bolt latch instead. Anyone else have a piece of equipment or hardware that kept failing until you changed the whole approach?

Buddy of mine had the same gate latch problem, swapped to a chain and it never broke again.

Why do people overthink gate hardware so much? A chain is simple and it works. That's pretty much all you need.

@parker_palmer44 might be onto something with that chain idea honestly. I resisted it for way too long because I thought it looked "too simple" but here I am on my third latch like a FOOL. Guess I finally learned my lesson about overthinking farm hardware at my own EXPENSE.
