Tried the 'just wing it' method for my weekly schedule versus blocking out every hour, and the difference was huge.

Read something about how our brains treat time blocks like appointments we can't miss.

Nah, that sounds stressful to me. I need the structure or I just waste time deciding what to do next. Having it all blocked out keeps me way more focused.

Try setting up a loose weekly outline instead of a strict daily schedule. You can block out your big must-do tasks without locking yourself into every single hour. That way you still have a plan to follow, but you can move things around if you need to. It stops you from wasting time deciding what's next, but it doesn't feel like a cage. Give yourself permission to shift a block if something comes up. It's the middle ground that keeps you focused but not stressed.

Totally get where holly_reed55 is coming from. It's like the whole world is split between people who need a solid plan and people who can't stand one. You see it everywhere, not just with schedules. Some folks need a detailed recipe, others just throw stuff in a pot. That need for structure or freedom seems baked in. Makes you wonder if one side secretly envies the other sometimes.
