Rant: My dishwasher stopped cleaning after I started using those fancy pods

I switched to those single-use detergent pods last month and my dishes came out with crusty food still stuck on them... even after running the heavy cycle. A repair guy from Appliance Pro in Denver told me the pods don't dissolve right in older machines like my 2018 model. Has anyone else had a brand new product make their old setup worse?

Didn't those pods come out like five years ago? I used to swear by them, but my 2016 machine started leaving a weird film on everything so I switched back to powder and it's been fine.

The film is from hard water buildup not the pods, you just gotta descale your machine once in a while and they work perfect. Powder leaves that gross residue in the soap tray way more than pods ever did.

@vera_lewis2 you're probably right, my machine is from 2015 and it's been so finicky with pods lately. My dumb self tried to make the film go away by running a cycle with a whole lemon in the top rack. Just made everything smell like industrial cleaner. At least if I use powder now I only get the thin line of residue instead of the full glass film situation.
