Honestly, the way folks treat their cast iron skillets makes me want to scream
I was at a friend's place in Denver last weekend and saw her scrub her skillet with dish soap and a steel wool pad. Ngl, I almost had a heart attack. She said she does it after every use because she thinks it's 'sanitary.' That completely strips the seasoning and ruins the non-stick surface you build up. Tbh, a quick scrape, hot water, and a light oil rub is all it needs. Has anyone else had to gently correct someone on proper cast iron care?

Did you tell her it was wrong or just quietly die inside?

Ugh, I used to just die inside every time. Then I realized that never fixed anything. So last time, I took a breath and said, "Hey, can we talk about what just happened?" It was scary but way better than sitting there feeling awful. You have to say something, or nothing changes.

Yeah, that quiet dying inside thing is a trap. I got stuck there for ages. What finally worked for me was just saying the thing out loud, even if my voice shook. Something like "That comment hurt my feelings" cuts right through the weird tension. Lets you actually deal with it instead of just carrying it around.
