Got stuck between two different rental apartments last month

I had to decide between a cheaper place in East Austin for $1,100 a month that was 45 minutes from work, or a $1,400 spot near downtown with a 10 minute commute. I went with the cheaper option thinking I could handle the drive, but after 3 weeks of sitting in traffic my mornings are miserable. Has anyone else made a similar choice and ended up regretting it?

I made the same call a couple years back and switched to the closer place after six months. The extra money stung at first but having my evenings back made up for it pretty quick.

30 minutes. That's what I shaved off each way when I switched. And yeah, the rent went up but not having to plan my whole evening around traffic was a game changer. Plus I started actually cooking dinner again instead of grabbing fast food because I was too wiped to do anything. The gas savings helped a little but honestly just being home at a decent hour was worth every extra dollar.
