My smart fridge tried to email a spam bot from my work account

I was at home in Austin, working on a project with my laptop on the kitchen counter. Suddenly, my phone blew up with alerts from my email's security system. It said my work account was sending weird messages to a bunch of strange addresses. I panicked, thinking I had a virus. After a frantic hour of checking my computer, I finally looked at the 'connected devices' list in my email settings. Right there, linked to my account, was my smart fridge. I guess when I set it up, I logged in with my work email by mistake. The fridge had gotten some weird glitch and was trying to send out junk. I unlinked it right away and changed my password. Has anyone else had a 'smart' appliance almost get them in trouble at work?

Remember when my roommate's smart speaker tried to buy a thousand dollars worth of cat food. Had to call the company to cancel the order.

Your fridge was just trying to order more snacks for the team.
