I finally stopped paying for credit monitoring services

After my bank notified me about a data breach last month, I realized I was paying $15 a month for a service that basically just shows me what I can check for free on Credit Karma. I cancelled it and set up free fraud alerts instead. Has anyone else found a way to keep tabs on their credit without spending extra?

My identity got stolen in 2017 and the thief bought a jet ski under my name.

Filed a police report right away in 2018 when someone used my SSN to open a credit card. I called the three credit bureaus and put a freeze on my credit, which stopped any new accounts from being opened. Also made a report with the FTC website, that gave me a recovery plan to follow. Took a few months to sort everything out, but the freeze was the biggest help.

$15 a month for something you can set up for free is just throwing money away.
