That sheer powder I mixed took me 4 hours longer than expected

I ran into a huge problem last week mixing a custom sheer powder for a bridal client. The opacity kept coming out wrong and I had to re-blend it like 7 times before it matched her skin. Has anyone else dealt with powders taking way longer than they thought?

What kind of lighting were you checking the blend in? I've had powders look perfect under my fluorescents but turn totally different in daylight and that always costs me extra time fixing it. Also, what base powder did you start with? Some commercial sheer powders have such a heavy base that adding pigment just pushes you way past where you wanted to be from the start.

Also @michaeltorres I gotta push back here - fluorescents catch flaws better than daylight bulbs which just flatter everything. Start with a cheap translucent and you're already fighting a dusty base with no grip.

Swap out your bulbs for daylight balanced ones, @oscarc12, it saves you from that nasty surprise every time. I usually start with a cheap translucent powder and add pigment slowly, helps me stay in control from the jump.
