Mastering fishtail braids changed how I style updos

I practiced fishtail braids on mannequins for weeks. Now I can do them quickly for wedding styles. What other braiding techniques do you all recommend?

Fishtails are such a great base to have down! I read a blog post that said mastering the basic Dutch braid like @robert424 mentioned is the perfect next step because it adds so much texture to an updo from the start. The underhand technique feels weird at first but really builds on the muscle memory from fishtails. It lets you create those cool woven looks that sit flat against the head for a wedding style.

Dutch braids work well for updos and build on your fishtail practice.

Four-strand braids are just as tricky as fishtails. I struggled with tension when switching from mannequins to real hair, lol. What specific problems did you face when adding braids to updos after mastering fishtails? Like, did you have to adjust your technique for different hair textures?

Honestly, the switch from mannequins is ROUGH. I once braided my friend's thick hair and had to completely re-learn my grip.
