Everyone says a happy childhood needs big vacations. Mine is just a Tuesday in 1994.
My dad got laid off from the plant. He spent a whole week just building a cardboard castle with me in the living room. We used every box from the grocery store. That quiet time, not some trip to Disney, is what I hold onto now. It makes me question if we push expensive memories over simple presence. Anyone have a core memory that cost nothing?

What's your best free memory? Mine is sitting on the porch with my mom during a summer storm, just watching the rain. No phones, no plans. We didn't spend a dime but I can still smell the wet concrete. Those quiet moments just hit different. Makes you realize the best stuff isn't on a credit card bill.

Wait, you could actually smell the wet concrete? That's wild, I always thought that was just something people said in movies. It really does make those memories feel more real.

Remember building a fort so bad it collapsed on me.

Nah, I get what you mean but honestly the best memories cost something lol. Like @luna_wright's fort needed blankets and chairs, stuff you gotta buy. Those quiet moments are cool, but sharing a pizza you paid for hits harder for me.
