My uncle's 20 second trick got me out of a 2 week project stall

My uncle runs a small machine shop in Toledo. He told me to stop solving the problem and just write down what I was avoiding. I thought it was stupid. I tried it for one hour and found I was scared of asking a client for missing specs. Once I wrote that down, I called them and got the answer in 20 seconds. The project finished 3 days early. Has anyone else had a workaround that felt too simple to actually work?

That trick works until you write down the real answer and still gotta make the call anyway.
