My 19 year old cousin told me my side hustle was 'just a job with extra steps' and I can't shake it
So my cousin Mia was home from college over the weekend and we got to talking at my parents' place in Fresno, and out of nowhere she asked why I sell vintage lamps online every night, like what is the end goal. I told her it brings in maybe $400 a month and someday it could replace my day job at the warehouse, and she just shrugged and said if it pays like a job and eats the time of a job, it is a job with extra steps. That hit me way harder than some kid's opinion should, because she is 19 and completely unimpressed by hustle culture talk. I counted it up after she left, and I've put in roughly 90 hours on listing, packing, and driving to the post office this quarter, which comes out to about $13 an hour. My instinct was to argue with her but I couldn't, because she wasn't being mean, she was just saying out loud the thing I keep avoiding. Has anyone here actually had a younger relative say something blunt that made you drop a side thing, or did you double down instead?
