Finally got my drone lidar to stitch a full site map without crashing
After three failed surveys last month where the software kept freezing mid-flight, I tweaked the overlap setting to 75% and reran the job yesterday on a 2-acre lot in Austin and it actually finished, anyone else struggle with this on the DJI models?
Start with 75% overlap, that's the sweet spot for DJI lidar jobs. I've had similar crashes on my M300 when dropping below 70% on wooded lots. Just enough extra data to keep the stitching stable without slowing the whole thing down.
75% is way too high for most DJI lidar jobs if you ask me. I've been running my L1 at 65% overlap for two years now on wooded lots and never had a stitching crash. @hill.margaret, you might be burning through battery life for nothing with that extra 10%. The DJI Terra algorithm handles gaps better than people give it credit for, especially after the 3.4 update smoothed out the point cloud merging. I'd rather fly an extra pass at lower overlap than waste time hovering over the same trees twice.
