I used to think a full Windows reinstall was the only fix for a slow machine.

After swapping a dying HDD for a $45 SSD in a client's 8 year old Dell, it booted in 20 seconds flat. Anyone have a go-to diagnostic tool for spotting a failing drive before it gets that bad?

My old laptop took three minutes to boot before I swapped the drive.

My old desktop used to take so long to boot I could make and eat a bowl of cereal. I timed it once, a full four minutes and twenty seconds. I'd hit the power button, go downstairs, pour the milk, and the Windows login sound would just be chiming when I got back. Felt like a major life upgrade when I finally got an SSD.

My old desktop was a five minute boot minimum. I thought that was just how computers worked. Putting in an SSD was a total game changer, it boots in under thirty seconds now.
