The way I used to handle my bailout bottle was just plain lazy

For a decade I'd just clip it off to my side D-ring, but after a close call in zero viz on a Seattle harbor job, I started securing it with two independent points. Anyone else have a near-miss that made you change a basic habit?

My buddy's clip snapped on a simple shore dive in Monterey. The bottle just fell away into the kelp. That was enough for me to double up on the straps, no question.

Seems like a lot of extra fuss for a bottle. How often does that clip actually fail anyway?

You asked how often the clip fails. I saw a whole thread last week where multiple people had bottles leak in their bags from that exact clip breaking. It's not just a random worry.
