That time a comic shop in Portland made me rethink my whole stance on event books

I used to skip big crossover events, thinking they were just cash grabs. Then last Tuesday, the owner of Cosmic Reads pulled me aside after I grabbed my usual pull list. He said, 'Look, I know you hate these, but just read the first issue of this one. If you hate it, I'll buy it back from you.' I read it that night and ended up buying the whole six-issue run the next day. The way it wove through characters I already loved actually added to their stories instead of messing them up. Has a shop owner ever talked you into a book you were sure you'd dislike?

Oh man, that shop owner must have some kind of magic touch... mine talked me into that big vampire event last year and it was a total train wreck. Like, they turned my favorite street-level hero into a sparkly night creature for three months and then just... forgot about it. The next arc he was just back to normal, no explanation, like it was a bad dream. Guess I should have asked for that buy-back deal.

A shop owner once talked me into a crossover and it was still a mess. Maybe you just got lucky with that one?

Honestly, a bad setup doesn't mean the idea itself is wrong. @ninaowens, maybe that shop just did a poor job with the install and tuning. Getting it right really depends on the skill of the person doing the work, not just the gear.
