The town council meeting in Burlington where I fought bike lanes for 2 years

Last month I heard a 14-year-old say they take the long way to school because the painted bike lane ends at the construction zone on Pine Street, and it hit me that my "bike lanes waste parking" stance was really just me not wanting to lose my spot by the coffee shop, so now I'm the one asking for a protected lane in the next budget, has anyone else flip-flopped on a local issue because of one specific person's story?

My neighbor's kid broke his arm last spring getting clipped by a mirror on Elm, and that was the moment I shut up about the parking. I used to be the first one complaining at every meeting about losing street spots in front of the bakery, even though I only stop there twice a week. But seeing that kid in a cast for six weeks, and hearing his mom say she drives him everywhere now because she's scared, that just hit different. I voted for the pilot protected lane last month and even emailed the council to say I changed my mind. Parking you can find, a kid's safety you can't get back.
