Appreciation post: My gooseneck kettle died mid-pour this morning

I was making a V60 for a friend visiting from Portland and my Bonavita variable temp kettle just stopped heating, right as I hit the bloom. Had to finish with water from a regular pot, which totally messed up the extraction. Ended up running to a shop downtown to grab a new one before they closed. Anyone have a kettle that's lasted more than 3 years without issues?

Well, at least your friend got a real taste of Portland-style pour-over chaos.

Ha, I see what you did there mark436, but honestly that's more of a Seattle thing in my experience. Portland's coffee scene is way more about the meticulous, slow barista craft. Like, they'll weigh the beans twice and talk about the water pH. The real Portland chaos is trying to find a parking spot downtown, or when two food carts with the same name but different owners get into a Twitter fight.

Okay but "pour-over chaos" is a great way to put it, mark436. The_diana is right about the craft, but the real chaos is the line of people waiting for that perfect cup while blocking the bike lane. It's a special kind of city harmony.
