Spindle bearing gave out on a Friday afternoon last month

I was running a 3 inch face mill on a 2015 Haas VF-2 and it started making this grinding noise that got worse over about 20 minutes. Had to shut it down and wait until Monday for the repair guy to come out and replace the whole cartridge. Anyone else had a bearing failure kill a whole weekend of production?

idk sounds like you coulda just ran it harder and finished the job.

Yeah "ran it harder" is exactly what my buddy said before he tried to hotwire his lawnmower with a pair of tweezers. The thing caught fire and now he's got a crispy patch of grass that spells out "nope" in the yard. Sometimes pushing through just means you end up with a bigger mess to explain.

You ever have one of those moments where you know something's bad but you just keep hoping it'll fix itself (kinda like my 401k)? I feel your pain on the spindle bearing thing. @keith900, I get the "run it harder" mentality, but that's the same logic I used when my car started making a funny noise and I just turned up the radio. Ended up needing a whole new transmission. Sometimes the best move is to just shut it down and cry into your coffee while you wait for Monday.
