Stuck in limbo waiting on a brick delivery for a repair job

Had a chimney repointing job lined up for weeks, and the bricks were supposed to be here last Monday. Now it's Friday, and the yard keeps saying 'tomorrow.' I've got the mortar mixed and tools laid out, but without those bricks, I'm just staring at a half-finished stack. The homeowner took time off work to be here, which makes me feel awful. (You know how that guilt sits in your stomach.) Every day I call, it's the same story about truck delays or inventory mix-ups. My schedule is backed up because I blocked this whole week for it. Honestly, it's enough to make you want to pull your hair out. Just sitting around burning daylight when I could be on another job.

Does it ever feel like we're all just waiting on someone else's mess-up these days? The whole world runs on these broken chains where one delay backs everything up.

Honestly, 'broken chains' reminds me of when my coffee order got messed up and made me late for work.

Honestly used to believe you could just plan better and avoid the whole chain reaction thing. Tbh seeing one tiny shipping delay mess up a whole project last month really changed my mind. Ngl it feels like we're all just holding our breath for the next link to snap. Makes you wonder how anything gets done at all.

That "burning daylight" feeling is the worst. I used to think I could plan around delays, but a wait like this changes your mind. @charlesk88 is right about one mess-up backing everything up.
