Best and worst service week of my career. What broke me and what saved me.

Last Tuesday a customer sent back her steak THREE times for being overdone even though I cooked it medium rare each time. But then Saturday a regular couple tipped me $200 on a $90 tab just for remembering their anniversary. Has anyone else had a week where the highs and lows felt like different jobs entirely?

Lows like that make the $200 tip feel even better though, right?

Oh man, you're totally right. I used to think tipping big was kind of a waste on busy nights when you're just moving through orders. But after a few really slow shifts where I barely made anything, getting that $200 tip completely changed my mind. It really does make you appreciate the good tips so much more when you've been through the rough ones. Now I get why people say those big tips during the slow times can save your whole week.

My wallet actually cried a little reading that.
