My buddy Mike tried the same thing last year after 45 years of meat eating. He lasted about three weeks before he caved and had a burger (not judging, just saying). I get the appeal of cutting out meat for health or ethical reasons, but 40 years is a long time to change a habit that your body is totally used to. Maybe easing into it with a few meatless days a week would work better (that gradual approach helps with the cravings).

I read somewhere that it actually takes your gut microbiome a while to adjust to big diet changes, seth_singh20.

@seth_singh20 your buddy Mike sounds like he gave it an honest shot. My friend Karen tried going vegan cold turkey after 50 years of eating everything. She made it a whole month before she started sneaking bacon into her salads. The gut thing is real though. Her doctor told her she basically shocked her system too fast. She's doing better now with just two meatless days a week and says the cravings are way more manageable.
