Just realized my $200 meal kit subscription was making me a worse cook

I spent 3 months following those pre-portioned instructions and forgot how to eyeball salt or swap ingredients when I ran out of something. Has anyone else found that meal kits actually stunt your kitchen instincts instead of building them?

Isn't that how everything gets automated now... we just lose the basic skills?

Heard this NPR piece a few weeks back about how kids today can't read analog clocks anymore, iris927, because everything is digital now. Kind of scary how we're trading basic life skills for convenience without really thinking about it. Makes you wonder what else we're accidentally forgetting as we push everything to be automated.

Is anybody else thinking about how this isn't just about clocks but about how we teach kids to tough things out? Like when I was a kid, learning to read an analog clock took some patience and messing up a few times. Now we just hand them a screen that does everything for them, and I wonder if we're accidentally teaching them that hard stuff isn't worth trying.
