Just saw a hotel in Reno using a double glue-down method on a huge commercial stair runner. Is that still the standard or is there a better way now?

Yeah, double glue down is still the go-to for heavy traffic areas like that. It locks the carpet in place so it doesn't shift or bubble on the stairs. I've heard some crews use a tack strip method on the risers now, but for the treads, that glue is what holds up. You need that security in a hotel with hundreds of people walking on it every single day.
