Trying to get the rainfly on my new 4-person tent in the dark took me 45 minutes of pure frustration.

I thought I had practiced setting it up in my yard, but the elastic cord was twisted and I had to take the whole thing down twice before I got it right, so has anyone found a good headlamp that actually lights up the whole tent area?

My husband still laughs about the time I tried to set up our tent with a cheap headlamp. The beam was so narrow I basically had to use my teeth to hold it while I wrestled the poles. I finally got a Black Diamond Spot 400 and it was like someone turned the sun on. It lights up the whole campsite, not just your shoes.

Ever try using a headlamp to find a dropped tent stake?

Honestly though, is a super bright headlamp even that big of a deal? I've used a cheap one for years and it gets the job done. Feels like people just want to buy fancy gear sometimes. It's just light, not a life changing event.

Come on, you're missing the point completely. A good headlamp isn't about being fancy, it's about actually seeing what you're doing. Try fixing a snapped tent line or reading a map in the rain with a dim, spotty beam. That cheap light leaves you in the dark, literally. Spending a bit more means you get a flood of light where you need it, not just a tiny circle. It turns a frustrating chore into a simple task.
