DAE measure twice and still cut the wrong board? Lost a whole Saturday on a $900 built-in
Had a client in Tacoma who wanted a built-in bookcase around her fireplace, so I spent all Saturday morning cutting 3/4 inch maple ply for the sides. Grabbed my tape, marked 42 inches, cut all four panels, then stood them up and the thing was 2 inches too short for the alcove. Turns out I wrote down the width of the opening but measured from the trim instead of the drywall, so every panel was off by the same amount. Wasted about $140 in ply and half a day, had to run back to the yard before they closed. Now I keep a sharpie mark right on the wall where the actual opening starts. How do you guys double check your field measurements before you commit to a cut?
