Just realized I've sharpened my main boning knife over 1,000 times

I was cleaning my roll last night and made a mark on the handle for the sharpening stones. I counted back through my old job logs and realized I've done it at least once a week for twenty years. That's a lot of steel taken off, but the blade still feels perfect in my hand. Anyone else have a tool that's just become a part of you after that much use?

My old paring knife is the same, it’s basically just an extension of my hand now.

My grandma's old paring knife is like that too, I've used it for over twenty years. The handle is worn smooth and fits my grip perfectly. It just goes where I want it to without me even thinking. I would feel lost trying to use a brand new one.

Exactly, it's like your hand just knows what to do. @milam48 gets it too, that worn in feel is everything. New knives never have the right balance, they feel clumsy and awkward in comparison. You can't buy that kind of comfort, it only comes from years of use.
