Broke my good breaking knife on a T-bone yesterday

I've had this Victorinox breaking knife for about 4 years now, never had a problem with it. Yesterday I was breaking down a T-bone and the tip just snapped off clean when I went to separate the strip from the bone. Must have hit a weird angle or something. I was halfway through the steer too, so I had to finish with my boning knife which was a pain. The whole cut took me like 45 minutes longer than normal. Anyone else had a knife tip break on them like that? What did you do afterwards, try to regrind the tip or just buy a new one?

aw man that sucks. i feel your pain for real, that's such a bummer. i've never had a tip snap off like that but i had the tip on my old henckels boning knife chip once when i hit a bone wrong and i was so mad cause it was my favorite knife for years. i think trying to regrind it could work if you have the right tools and patience but honestly for a 4 year old knife i'd probably just get a new one. those victorinox ones are cheap enough that its not worth the hassle and you might mess it up more trying to fix it. plus the steel gets harder to sharpen right after a big chip like that in my experience. finishing the steer with a boning knife must have been brutal though, like using a screwdriver to hammer a nail.

Yeah it's funny how we get so attached to specific tools (like your old Henckels) and then one little accident just changes everything. It reminds me of how a single tiny crack in a windshield can spread across the whole thing if you don't catch it fast enough. Same thing with people I know who break a favorite coffee mug or a pair of boots that finally wore through. We spend years building trust with an item and then one bad day and it's done. I think it's part of why people hang onto broken stuff way longer than they should, trying to patch it up or work around the damage. But like you said, sometimes the smartest move is just accepting the loss and replacing it before you make the whole situation worse.
