Honestly shocked by how much I was paying for bank fees

Ngl, I checked my December statement and saw $14 in monthly service charges. I found a local credit union with a free checking account that just needs a $5 minimum balance. Anyone know a good one in the Phoenix area?

Read somewhere that credit unions actually average way lower fees than big banks, like something around $5 a month vs $15. Also saw @skyler_jackson27 mentioned dropping Chase, and honestly that seems to be the move. I've heard plenty of stories from people who switched and felt like they were losing nothing but the fees. Look into Desert Financial if you're in Phoenix, they're solid and don't have those ridiculous monthly charges. The app thing is true though, some of these smaller places don't have the fancy features but for basic checking they work fine. Just keep that $5 in there and you're golden.

Desert Financial is the big one out here. I had an account with them for years and never paid a monthly fee. Their app is pretty basic but it gets the job done. The only catch is you need to keep that five bucks in there, but that's easy. I switched from Chase and it felt like finding free money.

My buddy had the same thing happen with his old bank. He was paying like twelve bucks a month just to have a checking account, it was nuts. He moved to a local place and suddenly that money just stayed in his pocket.

Wow, ditching Chase for a local credit union saved me a ton too!
